Initial Fueling of the Lighter

The Zippo lighter is shipped without fuel for safety reasons. It must be filled with Zippo lighter fluid before first use.

1. Hold the lighter in one hand and use the other hand to remove the lighter insert from the case.
2. Flip the insert upside down. Lift the felt pad at the bottom to reveal the packing material in the fuel chamber.
3. Slowly saturate the packing material with Zippo lighter fluid. Do not overfill; stop when the fuel reaches the top of the packing material.
4. Carefully reinsert the lighter system back into the case. Ensure it is fully seated.

Lighting Your Zippo Lighter

Once fueled, your Zippo lighter is ready for use.

1. Open the lighter's lid. You will hear the distinctive "Zippo click."
2. With your thumb, firmly roll the flint wheel downwards against the flint. This action creates a spark that ignites the fuel-soaked wick.
3. To extinguish the flame, simply close the lid. The flame will be snuffed out due to lack of oxygen. Do not blow out the flame.

Replacing Flints

1. Remove the lighter insert from the case.
2. Unscrew the large brass screw at the bottom of the insert. This screw holds the flint spring.
3. Carefully remove the old flint (if any) from the flint tube.
4. Take a new flint from the dispenser. The dispenser allows you to push out one flint at a time.
5. Insert the new flint into the flint tube.
6. Replace the flint spring and screw it back in tightly. Ensure the screw is turned as far as it will go to allow the lid to close properly.

Over time, the wick may become charred or worn. To maintain optimal performance, occasionally pull the wick up with pliers until a clean section is exposed. Trim the charred portion of the wick level with the chimney. Replace the wick when it is too short to pull up.
